Bayer is meeting ambitions on the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge through several initiatives:

• Vegetables by Bayer has committed USD 101 million over 2022-2030 in Asia and Africa to developing climate-smart vegetable seeds for smallholder farmers. Bayer is working on seeds that are tolerant to extreme temperatures, improve yields, are disease resistant, and render crops more suitable for mechanical harvesting. The company is also providing extension services to improve sustainable practices across smallholders to help them improve productivity and reduce losses.
• Arize has committed USD 52.2 million over 2022-2030 to agricultural innovation to support sustainable practices in water-scarce regions.
• Better Life Farming is focused on education and vocational programs for rural youth on agriculture and innovation.
• The Modern Breeding Project, focuses on six tropical crops in sub-Saharan Africa: cassava, maize, cowpea, banana, yam, and soybean. The project is researching new varieties that are better suited for drought and heat.
• The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) focuses on matching Bayer plant breeders with smallholder farmers for a one-on-one mentoring relationship.
• BayGap focuses on training and agronomic advice for smallholder farmers. The project is designed for small family farms to help them set climate-resilient agricultural practices.
