Agriface Agri Farmer Centre
AGRIFACE is working with smallholder cooperatives in Rwanda. Upon purchase of the produce, AGRIFACE pays farmers (through cooperatives) 70% of the agreed price. The remaining 30% is saved as retainer and paid pack to the farmers at a later date, in the form of processed (and fortified) products. For the company, this model helps ensure a stable cashflow without needing to resort to bank lending. For farmers, it ensures that they benefit from their harvest (making them food secure in a more nutritious way). It also helps address the recurrent problem of conflicts at the (farmer) household level, which arise when the harvest season has passed and there is no money to buy food. The fortified products sold by AGRIFACE are also sold in a variety of sizes, including smaller packages to increase affordability to poorer consumers.
